The collector of this research collection was a freelance author on religious conservative organizations as well as gay and lesbian organizations. While this collection focuses on reference resources about conservative religious organizations in the political arena, it provides context and incidental information about LGBTQ religious issues.
Hist/Bio Note
Ballot Measure 9, concerning gay rights in Oregon, was sponsored by the conservative Oregon Citizens Alliance (OCA), in 1992. It drew widespread national attention before being soundly defeated. The OCA felt that their traditional values were under siege in the face of growing acceptance of homosexuality by society. Opponents stated that the measure was unfairly discriminatory, that it was unconstitutional, and that it demonstrated the homophobia and bigotry of its backers. It was not passed
