Hist/Bio Note

The Council on Religion and the Homosexual (CRH) was a joint venture of liberal Protestant clergy and gay/lesbian activists in San Francisco in 1964. Spearheaded by the Rev. Ted McIlvenna of the Glide Urban Center. The group was the first to provide opportunities for dialogue and education between religious leaders and lesbian/gay persons. The outcry over a police raid on fundraising dance for CRH at California Hall on January 1, 1965, became a rallying cry for the gay/lesbian liberation movement in San Francisco.
