Acclaimed author and activist Brian McNaught is in conversation with theologian Jason Steidl Jack on queer Catholic history and history-making as they discuss Brian’s recently released memoir, A Prince of Boy: How One Gay Catholic Helped Change the World (Wipf & Stock: 2025). McNaught recounts his life as a devoted altar boy who was later fired by the church for coming out as gay. The unintended career that resulted ensured that the word "gay" would be said with understanding and respect in churches, universities, and corporate offices in Mumbai, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and North America. Brian transformed the hearts, minds, and behaviors of multitudes of people by telling his story with lovingkindness through his talks, books, DVDs, columns, radio and TV shows, and podcast. He gives credit for every good thing he has said or done to his friendship with the Holy Spirit.
Brian McNaught is a pioneering author and speaker on LGBTQ+ issues, including the reconciliation and affirmation of faith and sexuality. He has changed the beliefs and behaviors of millions of people in over 200 colleges, Fortune 50 corporations, and in U.S. government agencies, such as the National Security Agency. Brian’s new memoir, A Prince of a Boy — How One Gay Catholic Helped Change the World” explains how he has impacted hearts and minds by telling his story with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
