Join us to hear Australian historian Timothy Jones, PhD, interview Lucas Wilson, PhD on his recently-published anthology, Shame-Sex Attraction: Survivors’ Stories of Conversion Therapy. This edited collection uses 17 firsthand stories to expose conversion practices for what they are—pseudoscientific, bogus, ineffective and wildly traumatic. With the U.S. Supreme Court now considering a case related to conversion therapy, this conversation is more urgent than ever. This webinar is an opportunity to delve more deeply into this issue and how it impacts lives.
Lucas Wilson, Ph.D. is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Toronto Mississauga. He is the editor of Shame-Sex Attraction: Survivors’ Stories of Conversion Therapy. His public-facing writing has appeared in The Advocate, Queerty, LGBTQ Nation, and Religion Dispatches, among other venues. He is currently working on a new edited collection about queer experiences at Christian colleges, universities, and seminaries (under contract with University of Georgia Press).
Timothy Jones, Ph.D. (he/they) is Professor of History at La Trobe University, where he researches problems at the intersection of religious history and the history of sexuality. He led a 10-year national investigation into LGBTQA+ conversion practices in Australia and is currently researching the history of nonreligious spiritual care.
