Description

The George W. Henry Collection consists of records and research material providing a wealth of historic information concerning all aspects of homosexuality and the gay liberation movement before, through, and after the Stonewall riots. A finding aid is available online.

Hist/Bio Note

The Connecticut Chapter of the George W. Henry Foundation housed a committee which was known successively as the Rehabilitation Committee (1963-1965), Project "H" (1965-1979), and the Committee on Sexual Minorities (1980-1986). Before the Stonewall riots, these committees provided almost the only organized educational and psycho-social assistance to homosexuals within the Christian community. The Reverend Canon Clinton Jones of the Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, Connecticut, was a central figure in the committee work from its inception. Upon his retirement in the late 1980s, the Cathedral determined that other organizations had developed to provide similar services and thereafter disbanded the committee.
