Description
The collection, called 'fonds,' are arranged in 8 series. It contains 28,305 m of motion
picture film, 35 videocassettes, 16 video reels, 14 audio reels, and 4 audiocassettes. The collection consists of films, videos and associated material created by David Troster from his student days at York University until his death in 1995. As an interrelated whole, the fonds contains Troster's completed and incomplete works as a producer of corporate and independent films and videos, in addition to records such as scripts and production files relating to this creative process. His journals and letters provide his own introspective
view on his work and provide insight to the relationship between his person and his work.
Hist/Bio Note
David Benjamin Troster (1949-1995) was a Toronto based filmmaker who produced both
independent films and corporate film and videos. His independent films centred on questions
of cultural and sexual identity reflecting his own Jewish and gay identity. In his corporate
production work he gained a reputation for productions for medical and pharmaceutical clients
but also produced films and videos for banks and government agencies.
