LGBTQ-RAN wrapped up its month-long Queering Our Roots 20th anniversary celebration with a closing Gala gathering on Sunday, November 7th.
At this Gala gathering we:
- Honored five elders of LGBTQ+ religious movements--Rev. Dr. Janie Spahr, Rev. Jonathon Thunderword, Evelyn Torton Beck, Ph.D., Archbishop Carl Bean (posthumously) and Rev. Troy Perry--for their courageous leadership over several decades. Participants had a chance to meet/greet these elders in a social time following the Gala.
- Watched a dramatic account of how LGBTQ-RAN got started 20 years ago with stories from Mark Bowman, Carl Foote, Doris Malkmus, Mary E. Hunt, Ph.D. and Rebecca Alpert Ph.D.
- Learned more about the important role that LGBTQ archives play in preserving our history.
- Heard the Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer, transgender bishop in the ELCA, envision future possibilities for LGBTQ-RAN.
- Engaged in small-group conversation with other LGBTQ-RAN friends.
- Celebrated our generosity in giving $20,000 to plant seeds for LGBTQ-RAN's future.
